About National American University

National American University was started in 1941 as a business college, focusing primarily on secretarial and accounting classes. When WWII veterans began to return home, NAU answered the need for advanced business education by adding courses and faculty.

Since then, the university has continued to expand its course offerings and faculty. Today, NAU is a fully accredited university offering baccalaureate and graduate level education.

When internet-based distance learning and adult educational models were introduced, NAU began to offer on-line classes. Today, NAU offers classes at 16 physical campuses and a virtual campus.

You can complete educational requirements on campus, on line or in a “blended” format, where some classes are online and some are on campus.

NAU’s distinctive’s include small class sizes (15-24), a caring and supportive environment and a culture of diversity. The school offers technical and professional continuing education, undergraduate education and graduate education in health care, business and business-related fields utilizing traditional, accelerated and distance learning formats.

About the RN to BSN Nursing Program

Today’s dynamic and diverse health care environment requires professional nurses who can champion health promotion and disease prevention, function effectively in ambiguous, unpredictable and complex environments, demonstrate critical thinking and flexibility, and execute a variety of roles throughout a lifetime career. The National American University RN to BSN program provides necessary knowledge for registered nurses to transition to effective professional nursing practice in a rapidly changing environment.

The National American University RN to BSN program is designed for working RN’s with an associate degree or diploma certificate, building on the student’s past education and experience. This program offers a flexible and practical way for RN’s to expand their knowledge and prepare for leadership positions in a variety of health care settings. It also provides the skills and credentials necessary to pursue graduate education.

The RN to BSN program will develop the student’s cultural competence in practicing nursing with a diverse society and provide an overview of health care accounting, reimbursement, legal statutes, and information technology skills needed for managerial nursing positions.

In addition, the RN to BSN program aims to develop the student’s critical thinking skills to improve professional nursing practice and health care outcomes, while exposing the student to nursing and health care philosophy and theories necessary for collaborative and interdisciplinary leadership.

The Bloomington campus of National American University is an excellent massage school option for an aspiring massage therapist. The campus is in an ideal location across from the Mall of America, the largest shopping mall in the country. Students at this campus say they love the convenience of access to the mall and all the amenities it offers including, shopping, restaurants, entertainment and jobs.

Financial Aid

National American University strives to offer a quality education at an affordable cost and is regularly named as one of the least expensive private universities. The school makes every effort to provide affordable options for every student.

NAU also is keenly aware that some students are unable to pursue their academic goals without the benefit of financial aid. Consequently, NAU offers financial assistance through a variety of financial aid options. Grants and scholarships are available along with work-study options and low-interest government loans. Other financial support may be available in the form of military assistance, VA benefits, and corporate tuition reimbursement.

Going to School in Bloomington, MN

Bloomington is a major suburb in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. It is the fifth largest city in Minnesota located just 10 miles from downtown Minneapolis.

Bloomington was home for the Minnesota Vikings of the NFL and the Minnesota Twins of MLB for more than 20 years. But in 1982 both teams were moved to the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in downtown Minneapolis. As a result, the old stadium site was purchased by local authorities and plans were developed for the Mall of America. The mall opened in 1992 and is the largest indoor mall in the U.S. The mall employs 13,000 people. In 2006 the Water Park of America was opened and plans are in place for Phase II of the Mall of America.

The city of Bloomington has over 90,000 residents. The hospitality industry provides the most jobs in the area employing over 20,000. Other employers include Thermo King, the Toro Company, Seagate Technology and ADC Telecommunications.

Local authorities have made a commitment to the overall livability of Bloomington and over 1/3 of the city has been reserved as park land or for recreational activities. There are numerous softball fields, tennis courts and golf courses for plenty of outdoor activity options.

The proximity of Bloomington to the Minneapolis-St. Paul area offers many additional options for entertainment and culture including professional and college sports, arts and theater, concerts, museums and many historical sites.
