About Southeastern College

Southeastern College is a private school with campuses across Florida state. The school’s focus is on career education with an emphasis on personalized attention.

For this reason, classes are kept deliberately small to allow for more interaction between students and instructors. They strive to help each student meet his or her personal educational needs. This extends to offering flexible schedules and the option to take many courses online.

Associate of Science in Emergency Medical Services

Available at Southeastern College in New Port Richey as an Associate of Science degree program, the Emergency Medical Services curriculum couples the knowledge needed in order to pursue employment as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Paramedic.

Coursework for the Emergency Medical Services Degree program includes hands-on training in assessing the nature of a patient’s condition, injury assessment, and other industry-standard knowledge. In addition, the program is designed for those who are interested in working in fields such as ambulance, safety, fire, and the emergency room.

Diploma in EMT-B (Paramedic)

Designed to prepare graduates for a career in the emergency medical services, the Diploma in EMT-B (Paramedic) program is ideal for those who are interested in becoming highly-trained members of a health care community. In addition to learning how to provide advanced and basic life support, students of this program will study how to respond to mass casualty situations, crime scenes, rescue operations, and medical emergencies.

Diploma in Medical Billing and Coding

A Diploma program, this course of study is designed to give students a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of health records management, medical terminology, billing software, insurance procedures, and medical coding.

Designed for those who are seeking entry-level employment in the health information management or medical billing fields, this program will prepare students to seek employment in the public and private sector.

Associate of Science or Diploma in Medical Assisting

While working with specialized high-tech equipment is fun, some career choices allow students to use a wider range of technology. Medical Assistants are trained to use a whole host of different machines. In addition, Medical Assistants get to work directly with the patients they are helping. Either way, graduates with these Associate’s degrees or Diplomas (depending on course of study) are truly important members of a patient’s health care team.

Associate of Science in Diagnostic Medical Sonography

Available at Southeastern College in New Port Richey as an Associate of Science degree program, the Diagnostic Medical Sonography curriculum integrates clinical, lab, and didactic experiences. Ideal for those interested in becoming an entry-level sonographer, coursework includes the skills needed in order to provide patient services using diagnostic techniques. Students will also learn about Doppler, two-dimensional, and other sonography procedures.

Practical Nursing Program

Students who graduate from the Southeastern College Practical Nursing Program receive a diploma in Practical Nursing. They are prepared to take the NCLEX-PN exam and to apply for licensure as LPN’s.

LPN’s work in a variety of health care settings, including doctor’s offices, hospitals, convalescent centers, home health, nursing homes and community settings. They work under the supervision of RN’s and/or doctors, and may supervise nursing assistants and other healthcare workers.

LPN’s provide care for individuals throughout the lifecycle. They know how to take physical care of people, how to prevent disability, how to take vital signs, give medications and administer treatments. LPN’s can observe patients and detect adverse reactions, declining or improving health status and participate in planning care for their patients.

The Practical Nursing program at Southeastern College requires the completion of 52.0 credit hours. This can be completed in 12 months if a student attends full-time during traditional classroom hours.

Faculty & Facilities

Because Southeastern College focuses so heavily on individualized attention, the faculty members must be onboard with the agenda. The student-to-instructor ratio is intentionally low to allow for more one-on-one time. Students also attend only one class at a time for a month each, so they get the opportunity to really know their instructors.

In order to best prepare students to step into the health care world, Southeastern College offers education in modern, up-to-date facilities. Classroom instruction includes the use of equipment that will typically be found out in the workplace.

Southeastern College is institutionally accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges, 2101 Wilson Blvd, Suite 302, Arlington, Virginia, 22201. Further information may be obtained by contacting the Commission at (703) 247-4212.
